Joey Barrera is the current Recreation Supervisor for the City of Watsonville Parks & Community Services Department where he is privileged to bring impactful programs to the wonderful community he was born and raised in. Joey began his recreation career in 2007 With the Watsonville YMCA and has held various leadership roles in youth development, sports, aquatics and administration. Prior to his current role, Joey spearheaded a partnership between the City of Salinas and Central Coast YMCA where he led operations for the Salinas Aquatic Center and Sherwood Tennis Center. 

 

In April of 2022, Joey was elected Director at Large- Youth & Teens for The California Parks and Recreation Society District 6 board, serving public recreation agencies in Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz Counties. In addition to his role with CPRS, Joey currently serves on the executive board as President of The Sports Association of Northern California Recreation Agencies.

Outside the professional sphere, Joey enjoys Disneyland trips with his family, talking shop with other rec professionals and is currently learning how to surf.
