Parents Morning Out arrives to Salinas, Monterey YMCAs

January 23, 2018

Craving a cup of coffee that’s actually hot?  Want to experience a trip to the grocery store you could describe as efficient?  Excited to meet your weight loss resolution through an uninterrupted Y workout?

Parents Morning Out, the brand-new program from the Salinas and Monterey YMCAs, is here to provide respite for families and another option for preschool-age kids in Monterey County.

“There aren’t enough accessible preschool programs in our area,” said Amy Grames, District Vice President for the Salinas and Monterey YMCAs.  “Providing structured and safe programs for this age group is crucial for successful early development and lifelong success.”

Parents Morning Out is a 4-day/week program for Y members, but will also be open to the community.  This program will serve ages 2-5, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., Monday – Thursday.  Each month will have a calendar structured around a kid-friendly theme.

“We will also use the Y amenities like age-appropriate fitness classes, tumbling, sports … everything the Y has to offer for this age group,” Grames said.  “Kids and families will be able to sample everything the Y has to offer.”

In addition to youth programs that make an impact, providing opportunities for parents to take a break also strengthens the foundations of our neighborhoods.

“The Y develops youth, but it’s absolutely important for parents to be cared for too,” Grames said.  “Wrapping up a to-do list or getting a great workout while their child is in a safe, fun environment is just as important in our overall mission to strengthen the foundations of our community.”
