‘Tis the Season! Summer Camps begin at the Central Coast YMCA

June 2, 2017

The next time you stop by your YMCA, be sure to join us in the Summer Camp spirit!

Summer Camps begin on June 5 at the Salinas Family Center and the Monterey Program Center and June 12 at the Watsonville, South County and San Benito Family Centers.

“Summer Camp at the Y is all about the experience,” said Amy Grames, Executive Director of Youth Development and Branch Operations for the Central Coast YMCA. “Building confidence, making friends, and experiencing new things — nothing compares to summer at the Y!”

Each week has a theme and campers will enjoy different rotations of activities throughout each day.  From arts and crafts to sports, group games, team-building and exciting field trips, Summer Day Camp is nonstop fun!

Preschool camp is available for ages 3-5 and Summer Day Camp is held for grades kindergarten – 8th grade.  Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 or 5 p.m., with extended care available to support working families.  Please visit our website to see the camp details for your branch.

New this year is an additional age group, so campers can learn, grow and make friends in an even smaller setting and with more counselor support.

“Building relationships between counselors and campers is really important to make this summer unforgettable,” Grames said.

Also new this year at the Salinas Family Center is Wacky Wednesdays!  Wacky Wednesdays give all Salinas YMCA members a chance to experience the fun of Summer Camp and participate in the theme for the week.

“Our first week is Cooking Cultures, so stay tuned for some fun treats in the lobby during peak hours at the Y!” Grames said.

Summer Day Camp registration is open at all branches of the Central Coast YMCA. Financial assistance is available.
