Aquatics Lifeguard

The Watsonville Family YMCA is currently looking for Lifeguards. Lifeguards are expected to provide constant surveillance of pool and aquatics activities, educate members about pool safety, carry out rescues and administer first aid or CPR if necessary, keep the pool deck clean and provide a safe environment for members at all times. ASES Program Leader

The Salinas Community YMCA has an opening for an ASES Program Leader. We are looking for a creative and responsible person to provide leadership to groups of elementary aged children and assist in the overall management and supervision of the afterschool program at an assigned site. This is a seasonal, part-time position.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or completion of high school equivalency
  • Completed 6-semester units and is currently taking 6 qualifying units or the equivalent quarter units in child development, child and family development, or elementary education at hire. Licensed Sites Only - Recommended additional three-semester units or the equivalent quarter units in administration or staff relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, facilitate and participate in engaging activities with children 5-14 years old
  • One or more years’ experience in related recreation, leisure services or related field with emphasis on programs for youth, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the desirable knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Possesses Current CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Live Scan Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct leadership to groups of children at the site, working to provide a safe, caring, stimulating environment for the children and co-workers
  • Delivers the curriculum to the children by providing a positive example to follow as well as specific instructions and feedback
  • Maintains accurate, up to date records on behavioral and health concerns for each child prior to and throughout their participation in the program. Communicates concerns as soon as possible to their supervisor
  • Develops positive relationships with parents of participants through consistent, professional communication.

Climbing Wall Team Leader

Job Type: Part-Time

The Salinas Community YMCA has a great opportunity for a part-time Climbing Wall Staff Team Member. This is an ideal first-time job for someone who has availability in the evenings and weekends. The preferred candidate would gain valuable work experience with a local highly impactful community organization such as the YMCA. The preferred candidate selected is responsible for the safety and positive experience of all Y members and guests who seek the opportunity to conquer fears and challenges while climbing our 25-foot wall. The preferred candidate will have a strong customer service skills relating to member engagement and creating rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Engaging and positive personality is a must.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Basic working knowledge of maintenance and cleaning principles of all climbing equipment (ropes, holds, padded flooring)
• Must be able to model the core values; Caring, Respect, Responsibility, and Honesty
• Current First Aid and CPR/AED certifications preferred or required within 90 days of hire date or position acceptance.
• Ability to work well within a “Team” environment and driven to complete tasks as a team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide safety orientations to all first-time climbers to ensure a positive experience

• Report any damage to supervisor/team lead immediately
• Maintain a clean and safe environment for all Y staff, and members.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED or completion of high school equivalency.
  • At least 18 years of age or older
  • AFAA certification a plus
  • Healthy Lifestyle Principles (required within 90 days of start)
  • Ability and willingness to work as a team member
  • Willing to follow directions and take initiative
  • Understanding of the YMCA mission
  • Willingness to demonstrate the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in interactions with members, guests and staff
  • Possesses current CPR and First Aid Certification
  • A neat, clean appearance. Other than the conservative use of earrings, visible body piercings are unacceptable. Visible pierced tongues are not allowed

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • YMCA Certifications to include: (within 6 months of hire) YMCA Healthy Lifestyles Principles, YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise, and Appropriate Cycling Instructor Certifications.
  • Create classes that are interactive, safe, and age appropriate.
  • Organize instructional space and clean instructional area after class.
  • Preplan class sessions.
  • Be able to identify hazardous or at risk situations and report them to supervisor.
  • Maintain a professional image and work harmoniously with staff and members.
  • Attend meetings and participate in branch-wide programs for special events, etc.

Wellness Coach

Job Type: Part-Time

The South County YMCA has a great opportunity for a part-time Wellness Coach.  The preferred candidate is energetic, organized, and a responsible person who will help assist our members with our new Y-Fit program.  In addition the Wellness Coach will provide equipment orientations, and maintain a safe and clean environment on our fitness floor and cardio studio.  The Wellness Coach will assist our Branch Director in collecting monthly data and contacting members.  It is our mission to change lives and the first step is to support our members in reaching their goals.    

 

HOURS AND SALARY

$12.00 - $15.00 per hour DOE

Part Time: 12-20 hours per week (29 hrs. per week max.)  Open availability is preferred.

  • Presents the South County YMCA in a way that brings our cause to life by articulating our purpose, over facility. Focusing on starting the process of taking a Y Member from casual to committed. 
  • Seeks and maintains current knowledge and awareness of programs, events, and marketing campaigns.
  • Works as a member of a team to implement all membership drives/campaigns and membership product sales in and outside of the facility.
  • Maintains clean and positive atmosphere on both our Fitness Floor and Cardio Studio

The Watsonville Family YMCA has a great opportunity for a part-time Zumba Instructor. The preferred candidate MUST be experienced, ENTHUSIASTIC and able to teach Zumba to participants of varying ages and abilities while ensuring a safe and positive environment for all participants 3 to 4 times a week.

  • Must have Experience taking/teaching Group Exercise Classes
  • Experience in teaching is preferred
