Supporting Central Coast Communities
At the Central Coast YMCA, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live a healthy life, grow, and thrive. Your support helps open doors for children to discover their potential, for families to stay healthy, and for individuals to find a place where they belong. Every dollar given stays local, making a real difference right here in our community!
“A Class That Became a Community.”
Christine joined the YMCA hoping to improve her health. For years, a lower back injury had limited her daily activities, and she wasn’t sure what kind of exercise would be safe. Then she found Rosa’s Enhance Fitness class. From the beginning, Rosa nurtured an environment that was welcoming, encouraging, and supportive. The class quickly became more than a workout. It became a community. Christine kept showing up- both for herself and for the others in the room who were also committed to keep moving, keep trying, and keep coming back. Over time, she began to feel the change. The lower back injury that once limited her daily activities improved significantly. But just as important, she found a room full of people who celebrate each other’s progress. Today, Christine credits the YMCA and Rosa’s class with helping her reach goals she once thought were out of reach. Sometimes togetherness requires a room full of people to cheer each other on. And to come back the next week to cheer someone else on.

“She Steps In When the Community Needs Her.”
Esperanza first came to the Watsonville Family YMCA as a member. Over time, she became something more. Her passion for wellness and helping others stay active made her a familiar and trusted presence at the Y. Staff and members know her as someone who is always ready to help. Recently, members asked for more accessibility for Spanish-speaking participants during aqua aerobics. Without hesitation, Esperanza stepped in. She joined Suke’s class and began translating the instructor’s directions so everyone in the pool could follow along and participate fully. Because of her, more members felt comfortable joining the class. More voices were included. More people felt they belonged. Sometimes togetherness requires someone to step forward when others need support. And someone else to make sure no one is left out.

“A Place Where Her Kids Can Be Kids.”
Maria works hard to support her family. Right now, she and her children are going through a difficult time with their housing. At the YMCA, they have found a place where things feel steady and safe. Her children come to the Y regularly to play basketball and stay active. Maria knows they are in a safe environment, surrounded by positive role models and supportive staff. While she works, she has peace of mind knowing her kids are somewhere they can move, grow, and simply be kids. The YMCA also provides showers and basic resources that help the family get through this time. For Maria, the Y is more than a place her children play. Itis a place where her family finds support and stability. Because sometimes what families need most is a place where they feel safe. A place where their kids can just be kids.

“She Never Misses a Chance to Dance.”
Marieta is a regular in Viri’s Zumba class, and everyone knows it. She arrives with energy and a smile that fills the room. When the music starts, Marieta is already moving, dancing alongside the rest of the class. One day she shared with staff how much the class means to her. Being in Viri’s class, she said, makes her feel happy and alive. Dancing helps her stay active, but it also lifts her spirit and supports her mental health. For Marieta, Zumba® at the Y is not just exercise. It is movement. It is joy. It is connection. When the music starts, the whole room moves together. And Marieta is right in the middle of it.

“This Place Changed My Life.”
When Samuel’s doctor told him he needed to lose weight to improve his health, he knew he had to make a change. But starting felt overwhelming. His daughter encouraged him to try the YMCA. She came with him the first few times, helping him feel comfortable walking into the gym. That first step set something in motion. Staff welcomed him and showed him how to begin slowly. Other members offered encouragement and shared their own stories. Soon, what started as a doctor’s recommendation became part of his routine. Little by little, Samuel’s confidence grew, and he has lost ten pounds. But the real change goes deeper. He found people who notice when he walks through the door. People who cheer him on. People who make him feel like he belongs. Because at the Y, he didn’t just find a place to exercise. He found a community that shows up for him.

“Curiosity Has Room to Grow.”
Kid Zone is designed to be a place where children can explore, try new things, and feel supported as they learn. One young member, (insert first name only) who visits regularly shows how powerful that kind of environment can be. When she walks into the room, she is greeted by staff who know her and a space that invites curiosity. Shelves of LEGO® bricks and magnetic tiles encourage building and experimenting, while staff guide activities that help children work together and solve problems. Over time, she has grown more confident in that space. She asks thoughtful questions about how things work and eagerly experiments with new ideas. Her creations become more imaginative each week. Just as important, she has learned how to bring others along with her. If a new child arrives, she is often the first to invite them to join. If someone feels unsure about participating, she encourages them to try. In a space where children feel safe, curiosity grows. Confidence grows. And independence grows too. Moments like this remind us what happens when children are given the chance to explore, create, and learn together.
