Today we present a story from our transformational Diabetes Prevention Program.  Since 2015, more than 100 people have learned small lifestyle changes to reverse their risk of diabetes and add more years to their life.

“My name is Paula, and I am 50 years old. After a physical checkup I knew that I was pre-diabetic. This notice was shocking for me.

Through the clinic, I was referred to a program for pre-diabetic people.   The program works together with the Watsonville YMCA. When I started the program, it was hard for me. But I challenged myself to improve my health, my well-being as well as my family’s health.

The program has changed me and taught me a lot. I learned that eating in small portions, varying the type of food and being more active makes me feel more energetic and helps me to improve my health. My started weight was 165, the goal was to loss 7% of my weight, around 12 pounds to delay or prevent diabetes. Thanks to the program, the support of the group and the Life Style Coach, I did it! My sugar levels were checked again and I am very happy because I am fine now, and I have lost 18 pounds.

But my journey doesn’t end here. I want to continue with this new life style, for me and for my family. It is not easy. Discipline, determination and constancy are needed but with the time and once the body gets use to this new way of life, it is easier. And I am very happy because the effort was worth it, now I am healthier; feel more energetic, young, and beautiful!


Me llamo Paula Tengo 50 Años. En Marzo me hice una revision Fisica. Los resultados fueron que tenia prediabetes. En ese momento senti como si me hubieran hechado una cubeta de agua fria.

Atravez de la clinica, me refirieron a un programa para prediabeticos. Programa que se lleva acabo en conjunto con la YMCA  de Watsonville. Cuando comence el programa, se me hizo dificil. Pero fue un reto que me puse,  un reto para mejorar mi salud, y mi bienestar asi como el de mi familia.

El programa me ha cambiado y ensenado mucho. Me ha enseñado que comer en pequeñas porciones,  variado, y  hacer ejercisio mas seguido me hace sentir con mas energia y nuestra salud es mejor.  Mi peso cuando commence  era de 165 lb. La meta, perder el 7% de mi peso corporal, es decir unas 12 libras para prevenir la diabetis. Gracias al programa y al apoyo recivido tanto del grupo como el de mi entrenadora de estilo de vida, lo logre!!!. Hace unos dias me volvieron a hacer el examen del azucar  y ya no soy prediabetica y he perdido 18 lb.

Pero mi camino no a terminado aqui, quiero seguir con este nuevo estilo de vida  por mi, y por my familia que amo mucho . No es facil se nesecita  de disciplina, determinacion y constancia, pero el esfuerzo valio la pena porque ahora estoy major de salud, me siento con mas energia, mas  joven y bella!
