Watsonville YMCA Receives 2016 Phil Rather Award for Leadership in Health Care

The Watsonville YMCA Family Center recently received the Pajaro Valley Community Health Trust's 2106 Phil Rather Award for Leadership In Health Care. The Watsonville Family YMCA was selected for this honor from a competitive field of nominees, because of the organization's commitment to improving the health of Pajaro Valley residents. Since 2014 the Watsonville YMCA has provided programs and services to the Pajaro community to  address serious health challenges in the community, specifically in the areas of childhood obesity, and chronic illnesses and disease due to being overweight.  To cater to the needs of this community, the Watsonville YMCA has brought these life changing services directly to the residents of Pajaro Park. The services and programs provided by the Watsonville YMCA include the following:

  • Summer Youth Soccer
  • Fall Youth Soccer

Youth Health & Wellness

  • Kid Fit

Youth Enrichment Programs

  • Summer Camp

Adult Health & Wellness

  • Walking Club
  • Zumba
  • Diabetes Prevention Program
  • Community Collaborations


In 2015, the Watsonville YMCA served more than 1,000 people in this community. In 2016, the community impact is expected to reach more than 1,200 children and families. 


The award was presented during a ceremony on Wednesday, May 18, 2016.
