ASES Program Leader

The Salinas Community YMCA has an opening for an ASES Program Leader. We are looking for a creative and responsible person to provide leadership to groups of elementary aged children and assist in the overall management and supervision of the afterschool program at an assigned site. This is a seasonal, part-time position.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or completion of high school equivalency
  • Completed 6-semester units and is currently taking 6 qualifying units or the equivalent quarter units in child development, child and family development, or elementary education at hire. Licensed Sites Only - Recommended additional three-semester units or the equivalent quarter units in administration or staff relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, facilitate and participate in engaging activities with children 5-14 years old
  • One or more years’ experience in related recreation, leisure services or related field with emphasis on programs for youth, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the desirable knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Possesses Current CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Live Scan Clearance
  • Completed pre-employment health screening and TB test

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct leadership to groups of children at the site, working to provide a safe, caring, stimulating environment for the children and co-workers
  • Delivers the curriculum to the children by providing a positive example to follow as well as specific instructions and feedback
  • Maintains accurate, up to date records on behavioral and health concerns for each child prior to and throughout their participation in the program. Communicates concerns as soon as possible to their supervisor
  • Develops positive relationships with parents of participants through consistent, professional communication.

Climbing Wall Team Leader

Job Type: Part-Time

The Salinas Community YMCA has a great opportunity for a part-time Climbing Wall Staff Team Member. This is an ideal first-time job for someone who has availability in the evenings and weekends. The preferred candidate would gain valuable work experience with a local highly impactful community organization such as the YMCA. The preferred candidate selected is responsible for the safety and positive experience of all Y members and guests who seek the opportunity to conquer fears and challenges while climbing our 25-foot wall. The preferred candidate will have a strong customer service skills relating to member engagement and creating rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Engaging and positive personality is a must.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Basic working knowledge of maintenance and cleaning principles of all climbing equipment (ropes, holds, padded flooring)
• Must be able to model the core values; Caring, Respect, Responsibility, and Honesty
• Current First Aid and CPR/AED certifications preferred or required within 90 days of hire date or position acceptance.
• Ability to work well within a “Team” environment and driven to complete tasks as a team.
• Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

• Must be coachable and willing to learn new skills

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide safety orientations to all first-time climbers to ensure a positive experience
• Ensure safety of all Y members & guests while climbing the wall
• Present for all scheduled shifts
• Work at all times as a team member, with safety as the main focus at all times
• Report any damage to supervisor/team lead immediately
• Maintain a clean and safe environment for all Y staff, and members.
• Effectively communication (face to face, phone, email) with supervisor when necessary

Cleans and sanitizes assigned areas, including such duties as mopping, dusting, and trash removal. May complete duties related to window washing, meeting set up, pool cleaning, grounds keeping, and other related responsibilities.

Membership Associate

  • Assists and supports both Executive and Senior Program Directors with light administrative assignments throughout assigned shifts.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in working in a sales environment or related role or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • HS Diploma or equivalent GED –Some college preferred.

Petite Feet Dance Class Instructor

Under the direction of the Senior Program Director, the Dance Instructor will provide instruction and leadership for our new “Petite Feet” class catered to our youngest dancers in the community.  

Essential Functions

  • Provides direct leadership to assigned class, working to provide a safe, caring, stimulating environment for children and YMCA staff.
  • Develop an appreciation for dance to our participants and parents in a non-competitive environment.
  • Develops, promotes and conducts events and activities to involve the families of program participants.
  • Attends, participates and promotes site staff participation in branch and association-wide staff training events.
  • Implements and maintains YMCA quality control standards and guidelines.
  • Transfers to alternative sites as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Senior Program Director

The South County YMCA has an opening for a Senior Program Director. This position supports the work of Central Coast YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

The Senior Program Director is responsible for developing, administering and overseeing all facets of sports programs, day camps, afterschool programs, family & teen programming, and special events, with a heavy emphasis on volunteer development. This is a full-time position. Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development of volunteer advisory committees for each program area and the branch.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring department marketing plans.
  • Must be able to establish, develop, foster and maintain positive relationships with area schools, churches, civic groups, businesses and community organizations.
  • Develop goals and objectives for departments that reflect the association’s strategic plan and objectives.
  • Maintain records to evaluate and measure the effectiveness of assigned responsibilities.
  • Responsible for Risk Management, Quality Standards, Child Abuse and Safety for all program areas.
  • Recruit, hire, supervise and develop lead staff for youth sports, day camp, afterschool, and kid’s zone.
  • Responsible for ensuring certifications and performance evaluation of all supervised staff according to Central Coast YMCA guidelines.
  • Must be able to prepare, monitor and manage departments budget to assure financial and program goals are attained while serving in a leadership role in financial development through our Annual Support Campaign.
  • Partner with Community Development to identify and manage grant funding opportunities.
  • Monitor payments in all programs and ensures timely collection of all program fees.
  • Serve as a member of the family center leadership team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood development, recreation/sports or equivalent area preferred.
  • Three to five years management experience with proven abilities in budget development, monitoring, and control.
  • Proven ability in program development, marketing and promotion.
  • Proven skills as a high functioning, multi-tasker
  • Minimum of three years of experience with afterschool programs, summer camps, youth sports & program administration.
  • Current state approved First Aid / CPR certified.
  • Bilingual, English and Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must have transportation in order to travel within service area.
  • Must pass a background check
